[The Oral History Collection consists of taped interviews of long-time residents. This oral history interview was conducted by Larry Burk; and edited by Sandra Hofferber and Clara Speigel., Myrtle Friedman was born, raised and lived most of her life in Hailey, Idaho. She was the daughter of S. J. and Luscha Friedman, who were early pioneers in Hailey. Mtrtle taught in the Della School, volunteered with the Red Cross and the USO at the Sun Valley Lodge/Naval Convalescent Hospital during World War II. In the interview, she talks about life in Hailey in the early 1900s--mining, Chinese, buildings, her father's dry goods store, riding on her dad's horse-drawn cutter in winter, Chinese gardeners and vegetable peddlars, and how the women who worked as prostitutes in the red light district used to stay out of the public eye in Hailey.]
