These are the images from the photo morgue of the Wood River Journal which was preceeded by the Hailey Times, the Wood River News, the Wood River Miner, and the Wood River Times. Many of the older images were obtained over the years from the Community Library's archive and are duplicate copies. Other than a few older photographs the date that the collection really begins is 1950.

Dugout Dick was born in 1916 and died April 21, 2010 at 94. Known as the "Salmon River Caveman," Richard Zimmerman lived an essentially 19th century lifestyle, a digital-age anachronism who never owned a telephone nor a television and lived almost entirely off the land in Elk Bend,Idaho. He first arrived in central Idaho in 1947. He built more than a dozen structures into the hillside.
