Black and white photo of a mock-up of the world's first chairlift, designed by James Curran and Glen Trout of the Union Pacific Engineering Department in Omaha, Nebraska. A chair hanging on a cable was attached to a truck so that the engineers could determine the proper speed for the chair to safely pick up skiers. The chairlift design was patented as an "aerial ski tramway" and chairlifts were first installed on Proctor and Dollar Mountains at Sun Valley.
